To Submit A Journal Article For Possible Publication:

We are always expanding our database of authors and journal articles. If you have a paper which covers a topic of interest to our readers -- such as innovative new energy technologies, successful corporate energy management strategies, onsite power generation, green and renewable energy developments, efficient HVAC and lighting technologies, optimizing performance of motors and steam systems, fuel cell and solar technology developments, unique energy project case studies, environmental management strategies, energy project financing, new regulatory developments and compliance issues, or project strategic planning issues -- simply follow the following procedures provided below, or contact the journal editors with any questions you may have.

Journal Publication & Topics of Interest: Energy Engineering is a bi-monthly publication and both Strategic Planning for Energy & the Environment and The Cogeneration & Distributed Generation Journal are quarterly publications. The journals invite original manuscripts in applied engineering for energy management, successful energy project case studies, HVAC, lighting, motor efficiency, boiler efficiency, renewable energy (solar, fuel cells, wind power, biofuels, geothermal, etc.), environmental management, onsite power generation, distributed generation and all related topics.

Manuscript Preparation: Manuscripts should contain a title, authors, abstract, running heats, text acknowledgments when appropriate, and references. The following are guidelines for organizing articles.

Title: The title should express the main point of your paper. Include the full names and company affiliations and their locations for all authors.

Abstract: a 100-word abstract at the beginning should summarize the paper, highlighting significant new information and conclusions.

Introduction: Outline the problem, its significance and how it is being approached in the main body of the text.

Main Body: This section details problems and answers, management or purchasing strategy implementation, equipment retrofit procedures, testing, and any follow-up results. Describe any unusual equipment, purchasing or design applications. Evaluate the results of the application or tests on engineering or management methods. Present the results with text, graphs or tables. Use the text to give essential information on the illustrations. Define all terms used in the text, spell out the full identification of the organizations and equipment on the first reference. (Note: Energy Engineering Journal and The Cogeneration & Independent Power Journal tend to focus on case studies, engineering insight, as well as energy management, energy purchasing, and cogeneration strategies. Strategic Planning For Energy & The Environment expands on these concepts by exploring cost savings, environmental compliance, financing and performance contracting, as well as strategic management evaluation and implementation.

Discussion Section: Results will be discussed, including the qualifications, limits to the accuracy of the tests, the calculations and any other problems.

Conclusions: A summary should state the conclusions, the final numerical results, and why they are important. Any important qualifications should be included here.

Acknowledgments: Brief citations on those providing special help.

References: List all references in order of their use in the text. The references within the text should be numbered consecutively in parenthesis (1) at the end of the sentence. When a reference is made to a previous citation later in the text, the same reference number should be used. The references should be listed in the order that they are cited in the text in the reference section. This format should enable authors to use the reference programs in word processing software packages. References should not be listed at the bottom of the page but should be included as end notes.

Appendix: Use appendices for mathematical derivations and support materials which are too detailed to include in the body of the text.

Figures and Tables: All artwork should be camera-ready with clear titles and numbering. Hand drawn illustrations will not be accepted. All tables should be reproduced clearly and the original artwork should be provided. All figures and tables should be referenced within the main body of the text with the figure or table number and title as follows: Table 1. Lamp, Ballast and Installed Cost for Fluorescent Lighting Alternatives, or Figure 1. Hotel Room Area Lighting Use Patterns.

Submittal: Most authors submit articles and artwork in electronic format. Most any word processor is acceptable, but Microsoft Word is preferred. Articles will be accepted as hard copy, but all figures, tables, and text must be camera ready. Authors will get a better product in the journal if the submission is electronic.

Copyright Policy: Authors shall assign copyright of the work to the publisher by submitting the following statement with their article: "This copyright agreement is made between Fairmont Press, Inc., referred to as the publisher of the Association of Energy Engineering sponsored journals, and the authors (list) to publish the following article, which is provisionally titled as: (title). Authors may use their work in other publications as long as the following credit is given: "Published by special permission of Energy Engineering, Vol. No., Date, Association of Energy Engineers, 4025 Pleasantdale Road, Suite 420, Atlanta, GA 30340." Any other publisher desiring to use any part of the work must obtain written permission from the publisher. In the case when the author has used material from another source, or ownership of material is other than that of the author, a written letter granting authors permission to reprint work must be obtained.
